A native plant nursery has been established on site in cooperation with Yamhill Basin Council. The Native Plant Partnership Nursery will grow plants for restoration projects and also to be sold at the Annual tree and Shrub Sale. There are many opportunities to volunteer related to the native plant nursery.
The parking area and entrance road were completed during 2007. These require installation of guardrails for safety. Volunteers will be used to auger holes, install posts, and construct guardrail around most of the parking area and along steep banks.
Completion of this highly visible project will help keep our visitors safe.
Nature trails are an important component to Miller Woods. They provide safe access for nature hiking and classes without negotiating steep hillsides and poison oak patches. Over two miles of trail have been constructed to date with the goal being over four miles.
Individuals interested in assiting with trail construction should contact the property caretakers and be signed up as volunteers. Some training is required to ensure proper trail construction. Work is sometimes strenuous but always rewarding.
Most of the trails and land features located at Miller Woods have been named and signs will allow visitors to navigate the property. Volunteering for this job will require commitment to learning Miller Woods trails and features and selecting the best locations for signs that will inform visitors but not be distracting.
Sign installation will require use of hand tools and hiking and some lite construction.
A visitor kiosk to be located in the parking area has been designed. Construction is slated for the spring and summer of 2008. Volunteers will assist the construction team with this important feature that will house property maps and sign-in forms.
Contact the property caretakers if you wish to assist with this project. It is expected to be completed on Saturdays during May and June.
